Upcycling Old Clothes Into Something New

Fashion doesn’t have to be complicated. You can make great fashion choices without spending a huge chunk of money on a shopping spree. Sometimes sorting through, cleaning out your old
clothes, or looking at what you have with fresh eyes can provide the perfect opportunity to make room for new pieces to enjoy. Here are some of the fun ways you can upcycle your old clothes to make new fashion pieces this year!

Print an old tee to make it feel brand new

Most of us have a massive pile of t-shirts in our wardrobe that we never even wear. It is tempting when we go shopping to stock up on plain tees, but often they end up gathering dust at the back of the closet. One of the things you can do to jazz up these t-shirts is to take inspiration from graphic tee companies like www.theartdepartment.com/designer and make a graphic tee of your own. Vinyl cutting machines, inkjet transfer paper, or simple fabric paint can be helpful materials in creating your custom tee.

Turn old leggings into a crop top

If you have a pair of old leggings which are becoming a bit worn and boring, you can make them into a fun crop top instead! All you need to do is fold the leggings so that the legs are on top of each other. Once you have done this you can cut a semi-circle where the crotch is stitched. You can make this semi-circle bigger if you prefer a wider neckline.  Unfold the leggings, push your head through the hole and place your arms in the leg holes! You’ll have a cute, simple crop top to wear for the summer.

Make a skirt out of a scarf

Scarves are a diverse accessory which you can make the most of in a number of ways. You can use them to jazz up a plain outfit, to keep you warm in the winter, and even to make a cute mini skirt. To make a skirt out of your scarf you simply need to wrap the scarf around your legs and tuck it in. It will give you a classic look which can be used for any occasion!

Turn a tee into a cute crop top

If you have an old tee shirt which just isn’t doing it for you anymore, the easiest thing you can do to upcycle it is to turn it into a cute crop top. You can either make things super simple for yourself and trim an existing top shorter, or you can be a little more creative to make a cute wrap top. To do this, you need to lay a t-shirt flat on your work surface and cut off both sleeves. Now, measure the exact center of the t-shirt and draw a vertical line in pencil. Cut the front of your t-shirt so that it resembles a cardigan. Now, all you need to do is slip your arms through the sleeves, wrap the top around your waist, and tie it in the back.
