Get Clear Skin!! Primadonna's Pick: Organic Manuka Honey

I have battled breakouts since high school, and though they have changed size, location, and frequency over the years; unfortunately, I still breakout. I have spent money on countless acne treatment products, including the infamous Proactiv (regular strength and the extra strength version); which worked for a couple of years until my skin seemed to "get used to it".   I thought by the time I entered my thirty's,  acne would be a thing of the past; but I seem to always be changing up my skincare routine as I struggle to keep the breakouts under control.

Forehead Acne: Before I started using manuka honey.
My most recent skin issue was breakouts and congestion in my forehead area. My great experience with emu oil left me wanting to incorporate more natural products into my regimen. I started researching natural ways to cure acne.  I eventually stumbled upon some information about a product called manuka honey.  According to, manuka honey   is derived from the nectar collected by honey bees that forage the manuka bushes of New Zealand. It contains unique antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiseptic, stomach-healing, wound-repairing, and overall health-promoting properties.

It's important to note that to indicate the antibacterial strength of Manuka Honey it is given a UMF rating which stands for "Unique Manuka Factor."  In the same way that sunscreen provides higher levels of protection when the SPF value increases, higher UMF ratings indicate stronger antibacterial strength. The number can range anywhere from ten to twenty.

I was intrigued by all the positive comments from people who had left testimonials and reviews about their experience with organic honey as a face treatment. Apparently, many women all over the world use regular organic honey as a face wash and/or facial treatment and get great results. Because manuka honey has more healing properties than regular organic honey, it is highly recommend for treating acne.  I decided that I would take the leap and invest in this "super food" to see if it made any difference in my skin.

I ordered the honey from, making sure the honey was not only raw and organic, but that it had a high UMF rating of 16+. When I received the honey, I incorporated it into my routine as follows:
  • While my face is damp I rub a small amount of Wedderspoon Gold 100% Raw Organic Manuka Honey Active 16+ all over my face. No more than a teaspoon is needed.  I make sure my hair is pulled back and that my face is damp so that the honey doesn't feel sticky, but glides on my face like a silky face wash.
  • I allow the honey to remain on my face for twenty to thirty minutes, and then gently rinse it off with warm water and a wash cloth.

After one day my skin felt smoother.  After three days my skin tone looked more radiant and two blackheads I had under my left eye were gone without any trace of scaring. After five days, I woke up in awe of how much better my skin looked. I immediately sent this text to my sister-in-law; who had been having issues with cystic acne.

I HAD to tell you this. I have been using this manuka honey twice a day for five days. I woke up this morning and every pimple on my face has been reduced to a scab or it's gone! I had one hard cyst on my right cheek for over a months and it's almost gone!  It's like they are healing every day. Even my scars got lighter!  I am in shock that it worked so fast! Order this stuff immediately....!!!!

Two weeks of manuka honey treatments: forehead is clearing up.
Meanwhile on day six, my skin started to purge. My forehead acne started to break up and I was able to extract a number of clogged pores.  (I use the Tweezerman Whitehead/Blackhead Remover to extract.)

My sister-in-law's cystic acne before Manuka Honey.
My sister-in-law, looking for solution for her cystic acne,  had placed her order for a jar of manuka honey after I sent her my excited text message.  After three weeks of using manuka honey she sent me this text and  pictures of her progress.

Cystic acne after three weeks of Manuka Honey.

Had to give you a Manuka update:  THIS STUFF IS AMAZING! I have been using it consistently and it cleared up all my cysts!  It really does cure cystic acne!  I don't feel any coming though either.  Now I just need to get rid of a few small bumps and work on scarring...

I'm so glad I tried this stuff. Though it's pricey, It's made a huge difference in my skin. Because it's a natural product, I feel comfortable using it daily. If you'd like to give it a try check out: Wedderspoon Gold 100% Raw Organic Manuka Honey Active 16+.

  1. Good for you! I have chin breakouts like your sis-in-law and this could be an HG. Thank you for sharing. On my way to purchase this tonight an try it. Why not go natural...our body appreciates it.

    1. I hope it works for you! Keep me posted on your progress and thanks so much for reading.

    2. I think your blog is great. You're in my RSS feed :)

    4. Wanted to let you know that, last night, I actually tried the honey brand and formulation you recommended. I love it! I felt a little tingling while I had the honey on my face but nothing I couldn't stand. Today, I haven't had to blot my T zone as much and I am SUPER oily most of the time (oil is there but I'm not an oil slick like normal). Also, I had the start of a breakout on my cheek near my nose, but the honey seemed to handle that too. My face looked a bit more radiant this AM but that could be the "placebo effect". I will do this treatment for the rest of the week and get back to you with progress.

    5. That's great news! I had the "radiant" effect too and it got even better after continued use.

  2. Pretty neat! I heard that honey was good for your skin but didn't see too much in the way of results when I tried it. I guess that's what I get for using Great Value!
As an added tip, adding honey to a mixture of turmeric powder and plain yogurt makes a great daily mask that can be stored in the refrigerator for regular use. When I use it, I notice a difference within days, and I definitely notice that my skin gets worse whenever I stop using it. Like honey, turmeric offers great skin benefits and with prolonged use it reduces the appearance and growth of facial hair, but the only problem is that it stains!

Great to see you back! I was wondering....

    1. Awesome tip; thanks! I've been wanting to try yogurt and rhassoul clay too. I'm on a natural kick so I recently ordered some calcium bentonite clay and organic apple cider vinegar. I'll be trying that soon and posting my results. I heard adding a bit of manuka honey to clay mixtures works wonders as well. Thanks so much for reading!

    2. Clays are great. Really tightens pores but do them on a slow Friday night or a 3-day weekend, because you might get some residual "pore cleasing" breakouts.

  3. I have cystic acne just like your joke, my chin looks exactly like that right now.
    I've had cystic acne forEVER.
I was taking tetracycline, doxycycline and they seemed to help but after a while, my body got "used to it" and I realize it could have bad side effects in the end so I've started weaning myself off of them.
but I will definitely give this honey a try!
    thanks for sharing! :)

    1. You're welcome! I hope the honey works for you. Keep us posted!
